how to eat? how to workout?

Since monday of last week, I've heard about 5 different ways on how I should work out to lose weight..  about 5 different ways of how to eat better to lose weight.. and about 3 different ways how to run in order to get better.

it seems everyone's an expert - yet they're not in shape.  HHMMMMMM .......

someone told me that crossfit, the same training regim that the navy SEALs use .. is not a good workout regim..

i'm sorry, but if the badasses from the SEAL teams are stupid for doing crossfit.. then i might be stupid too.

haha..

it's been a crazy week.

i got my first continuous mile in at 13:45.  I ran my first half mile straight through in 5 min flat.  I got fitted for my first pair of running shoes.. so i'm startin' tomorrow to hit it hard.

peace.

deadlifts and virtual shoveling

hey guys ..

haven't posted since before the deadlifting exercise.

I really sold myself short on the deadlifts.  I wanted my end weight to be 215.

... my actual end weight was 309.

I kicked that goal in the face.  I only did 3 real sets of the WOD, but had done quite a few smaller reps to get used to deadlifting again.

I know i can get 319, but my body was spent.

As far as virtual shoveling goes..  I really pushed myself towards the end just to get this dang WOD over with.   My biceps felt like they were going to rip off my bones.

I cooled down a bit and ran a few laps around the soccer field.  My shins started hurting after 3 so i just quit.   I reeeaaallly need to do some more running on a soft surface.

Deck of Disaster

Well I have to say it wasn't ALL horrible..

I'd actually say it was quite fun.. the anticipation.. the awesomeness when it was a strength.. the anxiety when it was a weakness..

Definitely helped me forget about all of the reps I had done.

I finished in 30.03, probably could have finished minutes ahead but had to wait on some stations, but not long.

I was encouraged by the almonds.. i didn't get as gassed as i normally do early on the workout and i was able to push through most of my tough times just by getting my breathing back in check.

I just know it's only going to get better.

Biggest Loser Contest - Gunter's way

I'm going to mark my progress a little more accurately.  If anyone wants to measure like me outside of the group - let's do it.

My goal is to enlist and pass the Physical by February 13, 2009.
To pass the physical, these are the numbers I need to hit:
87 Sit-ups, 71 push-ups, and a 10:30 1.5 mile.

The only number I'm really worried about hitting is the 1.5 mile.  I'm not a distance runner, I'm barely a sprinter.   Monday Jan. 12, I'm attending a group meeting at church to train for the Music City Marathon.   I doubt I'm in town for the marathon, but I'm doing it for the training.

I also have some concern for the pushups - but I feel as the weight falls off the pushups will get a lot easier.

I don't seem to have a lot of time as far as enlisting by February 13 especially since my run is non-existent at the moment.

Here are some more numbers that stack my goals against me:

Weight: 230
Height:  70"
Waist:  43"
Wrist: 7.5"
Neck: 17"
Biceps:  15.5"

Body Fat %: 27.00
Body Fat Weight (lbs) 62.10
Lean body Mass: 167.90

Number blocks of Protein, carbs, and fat needed per day is: 19 blocks

I need to be at least 208 lbs, or 20% body fat, or a 36" waist before I can enlist.

This seems to be a very daunting task, but if i'm going to make it to my goals anytime soon, I've got to hit it, and hit it hard.
